This is a very in depth and comprehensive care sheet on the general care and health of green iguanas. Please note that it represents my opinions and is based on my own research of the topic. If you disagree with anything within the care sheet please get in contact with me. If you would like to add to it, again please get in touch.
Green Iguanas (Iguana iguana) originate from countries in Central and South America, where they inhabit the hot and humid rainforests. Young iguanas spend their time in the lower parts of the forest, where it is darker and harder to be spotted. They feed on the leaves of trees and plants in this area. As they get older they gradually move higher up the tree as the number of predators reduces until they achieve their full length of 5-7 feet. Younger iguanas also require higher humidity, which is also found in the lower parts of the canopy.
The lifespan of your iguana is likely to be around 15 years, so be prepared to care for and provide a loving home to your new pet for some time.
There are a lot of good care sheets on the internet and I recommend you read a few to get a good range of information before
starting out. Given the proper care they can live for many years, so be prepared for the commitment. Use the links at the top
to navigate the site and feel free to contact me with any suggestions for the site or with any questions you may have. I will be updating and adding to it regularly. Use the links on the left to get started.
