This is a very in depth and comprehensive care sheet on the general care and health of leopard geckos. Please note that it represents my opinions and is based on my own research of the topic. If you disagree with anything within the care sheet please get in contact with me. If you would like to add to it, again please get in touch.
Leopard Geckos are an excellent first reptile. Originating from India and Pakistan, they are tame, require less specialist equipment than other reptiles and require a comparatively small space. For someone looking to
get into herps, I would recommend them in an instant.
They require a simple set up, and as they are nocturnal do not require a UVB. Being insectivores they largely feed on crickets and other small insects and worms which are also active at night. It is said that a lot of their characteristics and behaviours are similar to those of cats. One in particular is their tendency to stalk prey, sometimes almost to the point of playing with it. They prefer to chase their food, and rarely take anything which is not moving.
Leopard Geckos are among the family Eublepharis Macularius which essentially means "I have spots and eyelids". Eublepharis is broken down as "eu" which means true, and blephar which means eyelids. "True Eyelids". Macularius simply means spotted.
There are a lot of good care sheets on the internet and I recommend you read a few to get a good range of information before
starting out. Given the proper care they can live for many years, so be prepared for the commitment. Use the links at the top
to navigate the site and feel free to contact me with any suggestions for the site or with any questions you may have. I will be updating and adding to it regularly. Use the links on the left to get started.
